Setting Goals, and Achieving Them!

We all have our goals and ambitions. So what makes you any different than Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey?  What sets you apart from the mom who just made a big paycheck from her in home business or the guy who made his first million with his new invention? They set goals, and met them. You can too! Here are some easy steps to guide you to a better tomorrow.

Choose your big goal.

This won’t be an immediate goal. This is something that is going to take a lot of hard work and smaller goals along the way to achieve. Typically this would go along with your five year plan. This could be a job you have always wanted, switching specialties or maybe buying a house.

Set a timeline.

Set specific markers that need to met in order to achieve the goal. What needs to happen before this goal is accomplished? Do you need additional continuing education? Do you need to find a higher salary to save for a house? Figure out 3-5 steps that need to be met in order to accomplish your goal.

Write it all down.

It is great to have an idea or a dream, but until you write it down it is less tangible. Once it is written down it tends to become more real and you are more adept to reach the small steps to get you to your big goal. Write down the steps, make commitments to help you along the way, sign up for classes, contact a realtor. Make those steps into actionable items.

Stick with it.

If you are training for a marathon in a year, you don’t just run for a month and then quit until a month out and then hope you make it. You train throughout the year and you keep increasing your times and stamina. You continue to work at it.  Most often than not, people set a goal and begin with amazing strides but after time they lose momentum without continuous reward. At that pace, you will probably never meet your main goal. This is why the little steps and goals along the way help as well.

Do something daily.

Everyday do something that is aimed at the main goal, and keep track of it. This is a daily reminder of your end game and it is also a tangible thing that you can touch daily to keep you on task and from giving up.

never give up

Most importantly, don’t ever give up on your dreams and goals.  No matter how crazy or outrageous they may seem, you could very well be the person who changes the world!
